[IPC-GNSO] Fwd: [ccwg-internet-governance] NOMINATIONS FOR THE IGF MAG LAUNCHED

Greg,

You are correct in this, although the business in general (IP included) is mainly represented till now through the ICC BASIS who are very active, but at the same time any additional member who supports IP issues will be much better for sure. I remember in one of the MAG meetings that they wanted to raise the issue of PIPA and similar IP related issues in order to have less protection (as they put it back then) on the internet, but I with the support of other BASIS members were able to stop this.

So my recommendation for now, let us wait to see who are interested to apply and maybe we can arrange a call to discuss further!

Best regards,

Charles

Charles,

Thanks! Any advice you could give would be great. I am concerned that IP interests specifically (and business interests generally) don't pay as much attention to IGF, IGF-MAG, etc. as we should. Meanwhile, there's a virtual pipeline of civil society, academics and think tank types to these groups. On issues where we are all aligned, that's not too big a problem. But on the issues where IP/business is on the other side of issues, our voice may not be heard strongly enough. The "trend line" seems to be headed in the wrong direction. Any effort to increase representation for IP/business perspectives is a step in the right direction, in my opinion.

IGF-MAG nominating period has opened (see below). For those interested in Internet Governance beyond ICANN, this is a potential opportunity.

Colleagues

Good afternoon; yesterday the UN launched the annual process for seeking nominations for the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG). The link to process is at
http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/magabout/mag-renewal-announcement

Nominations are mainly (but not solely) made by constituent groups for business, civil society and technical community representation. On the latter the Internet Collaboration Group decided today to launch a Call (by end of week). I will circulate this when published. Likely that names will be solicited for by 22/1.

Best

Nigel
