[UA-discuss] Any help needed?

There are two Microsoft engineers who currently engage the community, and I usually handle the internal efforts. When I am at ICANN events I do reach out to various NICs, though.

Etuate, I think using the OSI stalk model here is not correct, a system/software may collect available data from any layer, in this case IP addresses as well as e-mail addresses, for different purposes I know, but it stores them anyway.

Both, validation scripts and database fields should be prepared to receive old and new gTLDs e-mail addresses, as well as IPv4 and IPv6 IP addresses.

That is why I was insisting in sharing a single communication effort to software companies/developers and accomplish two objectives.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your replys, as I said before, I am new to this group so I am going to trust the old ones judgement and obviously respect the previous work and help in anyway it is needed from a communication point of view :D

Mark, I just read your e-mail, thanks for clarifying and nice footnote! Are you member in any IPv6 group I could also help with?

Thanks!!

While I still agree that IPv6 doesn’t belong here, I’d like to clarify Miguel’s point.

It’s true that everyone “knows” IPv6 is being implemented. Few actually watch the<http://www.worldipv6launch.org/measurements/> stats<http://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html> or proactively calculate the ROI. They know they have been dodging it for years and don’t necessarily know that things have<http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/07/us-exhausts-new-ipv4-addresses-waitlist-begins/> changed<http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/datacenter/datacenter-blog/apple-set-to-give-ipv6-a-giant-boost.html>.

It’s good to reach out to them. I am Microsoft corporate owner for IPv6 as well as UA, and I’ve been wondering how to use ICANN to move the industry a little faster. But other than as a footnote (“If you like UA, you’ll love IPv6 – contact marksv” ☺ ) I’m not sure how we would tie these things together.

Feel free to reach out to me privately if you have any other ideas about IPv6!

This does not make any sense at all. IPv6 is a global thing and every developer out there should know about it unless they are in a very remote part of the world. They can even use google to find out how to integrate their application with V6. I agree with others, we should not be mixing UA and IPv6 here. We are talking about two different layers (3 and 7) in the OSI stack.

Maybe I didn't express myself well, what I meant was not referred to IPv6 implementation. What I wanted to say is that, since we are already going to talk with software developers, we should also make them aware that IPv6 is being implemented and their software should also be ready for that. I am thinking about IP validation or storage in their systems IPs in IPv6 format.

Thanks!

I agree with Martin and Mark that including IPv6 doesn't make sense. In addition to the fact that the RIRs are already working on it, the acceptance problems are quite different, we'd be targeting different organizations as key targets, and would even be generally talking to different parts of most organizations to make the implementation happen. So there's not a lot to be gained by trying to combine the two and it might be quite confusing.

Agreed. We could leave V6 to ARIN and the other RIRs. They have budget allocated and already operate large outreach programs.

For me, IPv6 doesn’t feel like a good fit here.

That said, here is some recent content from ARIN.

Thanks Don!

Does this Community Outreach group has a special mailing list?

Knowing I am new to this group and maybe this was already discussed, Iwanted to ask, since you are already focusing in software companies, wouldn't it be a good idea to include IPv6 w-ithin the topics? Many softwares may be sensible to this change since they could be storing visitors or users IP addresses.

Thanks again Don for your information.

Thanks Miguel…

There are four sub-groups within the Universal Acceptance group.

- Topline & Technical
- International
- Measurement
- Community Outreach

Perhaps you might want to participate in the Community Outreach group. They are currently focusing on how to engage with very large e-mail software and service providers to encourage their adoption of EAI topics.

This group is also working out ways on how to engage the software development community to be cognisant of UA and EAI & IDN issues.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this discussion group, and would like to be more involved and also collaborate with the initiative.

Is there any open topic or work I could help with?

I work in digital communication, so I could be helpful with materials, social media, etc.

I look forward to any reply.

Thanks in advance.
