[CCWG-ACCT] Townhall meeting follow-up

Hi Farzaneh,

My point was not to discourage safeguards but it was to appreciate the
realities on ground and determine if indeed the need for certain safeguards
outweighs the cost of implementing the safeguards.

As a way reference, there was a buzz phrase earlier this year about
"banning encryption on the internet" perhaps with the aim of catching the
seemingly great hackers. At the same time, there were suggestions of
mandating encryptions on the internet. Both on the basis of justifying need
for internet security and openness, however we both know that either of
them cannot happen/work effectively based on the architecture of the
internet.

So i think we should face reality of the fact that ICANN is indeed unique
otherwise please tell me a global community based organisation that
appoints its board members without actually having a formal membership
structure existing. That unique dynamics is one of the strengths that IMO
needs to be protected.
