Dear Metrics Sub Committee members,

I have posted the Action Items of today’s call and one comment made by OCL  on the WIKI page.

Comment: OCL suggested to try to roll out a first set of metric as soon as possible. We need a first set of metrics ready and on operation in Singapore. We should put together a time table.  The first metric: attendance metrics for the ALAC. an aggregation of all of those results onto a big spreadsheet would indeed be very interesting.

Hello Fatimata

You highlight a real problem that I foresee.. how does one define “participation” and “contribution”?

I think about the number of times when my contribution at a meeting has been “+1” because someone much more articulate than I has said exactly what I wanted to say.

We also have to balance ordinary meetings with contributions that members make to working groups, as pen-holders or even if just to the online and written conversations which are much more interactive in a working group role.

Perhaps rather than measures, we should be establishing benchmarks which can look at all types of involvement (360 degrees) and which might help to identify  “active” or “not so active” involvement in a much more friendly way.

These are all the things we have got to nut out. And no doubt we will, in Buenos Aires. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Dear Maureen,

Bravo for the excellent draft.  We might need to explain more the definition of ALAC status. Will it be the same to just be present at meetings than be present and participate?  The answer is NO but let me ask more questions.  Does participate mean having something to say even if that is just "I agree"  ? Should participants need to say something any how to be considered? Does significant attendance mean you attend X meetings + at least 2X comments?

I just want to better understand the logic.

I am very sure that everyone has been extremely busy getting over the IGF and preparing for BA , and  no doubt they are already busily discussing the issues among themselves ☺

It is not an easy topic to be raising, I completely understand. But we are all accountable and the ICANN bean-counters will be wanting to ensure that they are getting their money’s worth, even from the volunteers.

Perhaps we will get more feedback from the combined team in BA.. the Secs will already have enough to discuss at their meeting on Friday, but if I can just give a short pitch about the responsibility that has been thrust upon me, then that would be great.

The lack of feedback to your comments may also be a result of the IGF meeting, where many RALO Leaders were present. I sent your comments to the RALO Secretariat’s mailists last week and had no reaction. (see below)

I would suggest that you bring up this in the RALO Secretariat’s meeting in Buenos Aires (most likely to be this coming Friday). I am contacting RALO leaders via Skype to see if we can get them to attend the next RALO Sec calls this coming Friday.

Please accept my Skype request for friendship so we can set up 3 way Skype chats with RALO Leaders so that they come prepared to discuss metrics in Buenos Aires.

Hi all

I tried to include a comment on the Metrics workspace but although I couldn’t get the editor to load I was able to create a new page.
I wanted to put something forward for discussion and feedback and have used the ALS model which someone very kindly set up on the “ALS Metrics Should do” page.  I also based it on the new ALAC ROPS  Section 9.

I would like some feedback on whether it is appropriate to propose it to the RALO Secretariat. Despite leaving messages on their workspace and asking for some feedback, I have had nothing. Their last week’s meeting was cancelled.  I’m wondering if perhaps they would prefer something to pick on in order to get a reaction.. and I’m quite happy to propose something that will hopefully at least get them talking.

Anyway for those who would like to check out what I’ve been working on. Its on:
