Hi Casey,

Many thanks for sending the pdf version and for all the hard work to date. I leave the technical analysis of the work to those who know the field.

1. Could you please supply the blank survey forms that are referenced as Appendix A General Name Collisions Survey and Appendix B Targeted Name Collisions Survey as well as the survey form that appears at the link that is referenced in Appendix C General Email Sent to NANOG Subscribers and Appendix D - Targeted Email Sent to AS Contacts?

2. For appropriate context for the data you have been collecting and analyzing, I think it is important to add language in the section on "Name Collisions Reports Submitted via ICANN's Web Form" (on page 5?) which accurately describes the circumstances under which ICANN was soliciting reports as shown in the link you provided. This is necessary because no one will actually go to that link when reading your report. (Another possible location for the recommended text to be added is under the section called "Name Collisions Report Analysis" (on page 7?)

The language that should be inserted in the appropriate section of the study is:

"In connection with the Name Collisions Report form, ICANN provided guidance on the nature of the reports to be submitted as follows:

'If your system is suffering demonstrably severe harm as a consequence of name collision, please fill in the form below to report the incident.

ICANN will initiate an emergency response for name collision reports only where there is a reasonable belief that the name collision presents a clear and present danger to human life.

The emergency response could include temporarily removing the effected SLD or the entire TLD from the DNS. ICANN will serve as the initial reporting point, and if necessary will coordinate with registry operators to ensure that the report is acted upon in an expedited manner. ICANN's contracted Registry Operators are required to act on requests from ICANN within 2 hours of receipt of the request from ICANN.

If you believe your name collision meets the criteria above (i.e. your system is suffering demonstrably severe harm as a consequence of name collision or you have a reasonable belief that the name collision presents a clear and present danger to human life), please use the form below to submit your report to ICANN.'

The number of reports submitted to ICANN from the period 2014 through _______________________ was 47. We use the data from these reports to better understand user and organization experience associated with the delegation of new TLDs in Section ????"
Thank you,
Anne

Subject: [NCAP-Discuss] Root Cause Analysis Report

[EXTERNAL]

Hello all,

I have completed a full draft of the Root Cause Analysis Report associated with the NCAP study 2 for your review. I have written the draft in a Google doc, so comments and suggestions can be added right in the doc itself. But note that I have not figured out a good way to do cross references within the doc, so please excuse all the "placeholder" references, which will be fixed in a future revision. Please click on the link and request view/comment access:

I've also attached a PDF for those that would prefer to view the document that way. In this case, you can provide comments to me directly via email.

Sincerely,
Casey
